Cypress adds two multi-rate video cable equalizer products

Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (Cypress) today announced the addition of two new multi-rate video cable equalizers to its portfolio of diversified solutions for the professional video equipment market. The new HD/SD/DVB-ASI (HD/SD/Digital Video Broadcasting-Asynchronous Serial Interface) video equalizer products are used for shorter cable length applications, while the new SD/DVB-ASI video equalizer is only available. Requirements for broadcast equipment requiring SD-SDI (serial digital interface) or DVB-ASI code rate. The new device products provide easy-to-implement, complete port solutions for professional video equipment including PC video capture cards, video switches, video routers, station generators, satellite decoders, and DVB-ASI encoders/decodes. Both equalizer products offer industry-leading jitter performance and still achieve typical power consumption of 160 mW when powered from a 3.3V supply, saving up to 30% compared to competing solutions. The SD/DVB-ASI video equalizer eliminates intersymbol interference due to video signal transmission over the cable. It supports a variety of cable lengths in an adaptive equalization mode and achieves the industry's best length: 350 meters. The HD/SD/DVB-ASI video equalizer also uses adaptive equalization technology to drive the balanced SD signal, so the SD signal can travel up to 350 meters through the coaxial cable, and for HD signals, the transmission distance is the most. It can be up to 140 meters long.

Cypress's SD/DVB-ASI equalizer is compatible with SMPTE 259M and DVB-ASI data rates, while HD/SD/DVB-ASI equalizers are compatible with DVB-ASI in addition to SMPTE 292M, 344M and 259M. The superior eye diagram features of these equalizers enable more fault-tolerant board designs, for example, when longer trace lengths or board conditions do not meet optimal conditions. These devices are pin-compatible with existing solutions, providing a simple migration path without the need to redesign the board.

Cypress will present its complete video interface solution at booth #11.103 at the 2007 International Broadcasters Conference (IBC), held at the RAI Convention Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from September 6 to September 10, 2007. Includes the HOTLink-On-DemandTM family of video SERDES, multi-format equalizers and cable drivers.

The HD/SD/DVB-ASI video equalizer is available in a 16-pin SOIC package (CYV15G0100EQ) and a 16-lead SOIC package and a 16-pin QFN package (CYV15G0103EQ). The SD/DVB-ASI video equalizer is available in a 16-pin QFN package (CYV270M0104EQ) and a 16-pin SOIC package (CYV270M0101EQ). These products are now in production.
